Legal aid offered to senior citizens

Senior citizens in Anoka County having legal problems can call the senior law project of Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid St. Cloud Office.

According to Renee C. Loxtercamp, legal assistant, the senior law project meets with individuals 60 years of age or older on an appointment basis once a month in the area.

Representatives have the monthly sessions at the Fridley and Blaine senior centers.

“We can help with Medicare, Medicare supplement insurance, Social Security and SSI, landlord or other housing problems, public benefits, including medical assistance and fuel assistance, family law issues including domestic abuse and income maintenance, nursing home problems, home care services, powers of attorney, health care directives and many other issues facing seniors,” Loxtercamp said.

No assistance is provided for criminal matters, wills, estate planning or real estate transactions, she said.

There is no fee for the services, she said.

Call the Fridley Senior Center at 763-502-5150 or Blaine Senior Center at 763-786-9375 to make an appointment.

The senior law project receives Older Americans Act funds through the Minnesota Board on Aging.
