Entries sought for District 11 writing contest

The Anoka-Hennepin Educational Foundation (AHEF) and Coon Rapids Rotary Club are co-sponsoring a writing contest for all Anoka-Hennepin students in grades one through five.

This year’s theme is “someone special.”

Students are encouraged to tell a story about why this person or animal is special to them, how this person or animal fits into their life and how they make the students feel special. Students are encouraged to write about their feelings and to create details using the five senses.

Judges will look for imaginative title; an organized beginning, middle and ending; interesting details that help tell the story; colorful word pictures; correct spelling and punctuation; originality; and insight.

All entries are limited to 500 words with writing on one side of the paper. Each entry must have a cover sheet of notebook or typing paper.

Cover sheets must list the student’s name, grade, school, teacher’s name, home address, home phone number and story title.

Names should not be on the stories. Binders and folders will not be accepted.
