College notes: Leonhardt earns Offensive MVP among other honors

• Former Bemidji State University tight end Brian Leonhardt (Blaine) was named Offensive MVP after catching four passes for 62 yards and one touchdown in the Texas vs. The Nation Game played at Eagle Stadium in Allen, Texas Feb. 2. The Senior All-Star game is typically reserved for Division I players. One of the Beavers’ most decorated players of all time was invited to participate with 110 other college seniors in a game pitting those with Texas ties against other top seniors from around the nation. It is known as a showcase for NFL coaches, general managers and scouts.

• St. Scholastica freshman runner Maggie Kurtovich (Andover) was part of the Saints 4×200 relay team which set a program record of 1:47.95 at the Warren Bowlus Open at the University of Wisconsin-Stout, Jan. 26.
High jumper, Nicole Christianson (Coon Rapids) tied for third place, clearing 5-1.25. Last weekend she was second with a clearing height of 5-0.25 at the Border Battle at the University of Wisconsin-Superior.
Tester adds a double-double

• St. Scholastica senior Brett Tester (Andover) had 16 points and 11 rebounds in an 82-73 win over Martin Luther during Alumni Weekend Feb. 2. The Saints are 7-14 overall and 5-5 UMAC.

• Bethel freshman defenseman Tony Larson (Blaine) has seven assists and 37 shots in 20 games. He collected an assist and had a season-high six shots in a 5-1 loss at St. Thomas Feb. 2. Junior goalie Dan Harper (Blaine) has a 3.34 goals against average with a .887 saves percentage with a 4-5-0 record. He lost a 6-4 game against St. Olaf College Jan. 19 in his last start.
