The 49th annual Coon Rapids Snowflake Days celebration ends this week.
The 2013 event culminates tomorrow (Saturday, Feb. 9) with the children’s carnival at Epiphany School, Coon Rapids, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Sponsored by the Coon Rapids Snowflake Association and hosted by the families of the newly-crowned Coon Rapids Junior Royalty, the carnival will feature face painting, disc jockey, a magic show at 11:45 a.m., concessions, carnival games and prizes.
“Thanks to the numerous volunteers and friends of the Snowflake Association and its events for your ongoing support and assistance,” said Diane Buszta, Coon Rapids Snowflake Association president.
Planning for the 50th anniversary of Coon Rapids Snowflake Days in 2014 will start almost immediately, according to Buszta.
“Watch for the updates on the website this spring as we begin to plan for what we hope to be our biggest and best celebration ever,” Buszta said.
Sponsors of the 2013 Coon Rapids Snowflake Days include Coon Rapids Rotary Club, Coon Rapids North Star Lions Club, Coon Rapids Professional Firefighters Local 1935, Bunker Hills Golf Course, Harvest Grill, Probiz Sports, ABC Newspapers and CTN Studios.
Coon Rapids Snowflake Days began in 1964 as a Jaycee project.
By 1968, the celebration had grown enough to require broader sponsorship so the Coon Rapids Snowflake Association was created.
