Police effort to stamp out prostitution

Efforts by Coon Rapids Police to stamp out prostitution in the city are continuing.

Following two recent string operations at different hotels in the city after placing ads on the backpage.com online website, police responded to a massage ad on backpage.com Jan. 25 which was identified as being in Coon Rapids.

A male officer, posing as a client, went to the address, an apartment on the 9200 block of University Avenue N.W.

As a result, a woman, 32, at the apartment was charged with gross misdemeanor disorderly house and misdemeanor prostitution and failure to obtain a massage license.

She was released pending a court date.

“We want to get rid of prostitution in Coon Rapids,” said Det. Sgt. Jon Urquhart, Coon Rapids Police.

The prostitution sting operations, which took place in November and January, involved a female Coon Rapids Police officer working undercover.

The operations had the cooperation of the staff at both hotels.

Five men were arrested as a result of the Jan. 9 sting operation.
