A welfare check on an elderly Ramsey couple has turned into a possible murder-suicide case.
Ramsey Police officers were asked to check on the couple Feb. 12 after a relative received an e-mail containing suicidal overtures, according to the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office press release.
Caron Margaret Fine, 67, and Mitchell Wolfe Fine, 65, were discovered in the bedroom of their 8563 176th Lane home with gunshot wounds to the head.
Indications at the scene suggest that the woman died before the man, according to Cmdr. Paul Sommer, Anoka County Sheriff’s Office.
The couple were both experiencing serious health issues and they were being evicted from their home, but it is hard to say at this time if that contributed to their deaths, Sommer said.
The couple had no history of domestic violence, he said.
When Ramsey Police arrived at the home, they saw no evidence of an outside person being on property, but did see five of the family cats dead from gunshots, Sommer said.
Once they gained entry, police discovered four more family cats dead from gunshots and ultimately the deceased couple, he said.
The case is being investigated by the Ramsey Police Department, the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office and the Anoka County Medical Examiner’s Office, but no suspects are being sought, according to Sommer.
