The U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps has openings for a limited number of young people ages 11-18 to join the crew of Poseidon Division.
Interviews will be held at the Anoka County Blaine Airport Saturday, March 2, beginning at 10 a.m. Appointments are necessary.
The U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps comprises everyday young people who have an interest in seamanship, the Navy or other military careers, according to LTJG Dean Sime, commanding officer, USNSCC Poseidon Division, COTC Advanced Training Minnesota.
Cadet applicants must be crime-free, drug-free, physically fit and have a C or better grade-point average.
Poseidon Division Cadets, representing seven counties, train at the Anoka County Blaine Airport one weekend each month.
The program is managed by volunteers dedicated to instilling the core values of pride, service and patriotism, Sime said.
Sea Cadets wear the traditional Navy uniform and can participate in a multitude of advanced training programs, including at-sea training with the Navy and Coast Guard, submarine orientation, SEAL training, search and rescue and international exchanges.
Many Sea Cadets from Poseidon Division completed 10 days of Sea Cadet “boot camp” at the Recruit Training Center in Great Lakes, Ill., this summer learning about firefighting, damage control, military drill and naval customs, according to Sime.
Adult volunteers, with or without military experience, are needed to allow the Sea Cadet program to grow, Sime said.
“Those with seamanship, engineering, administrative and fund-raising skills are especially needed,” he said.
Interested adults are encouraged to visit March 2.
To set an appointment, contact the division’s Public Affairs Officer at 651-253-3883 or Sime at 612-599-0258.
