Special training sessions set for fire department
At the monthly officers’ meeting of the Spring Lake Park-Blaine-Mounds View Fire Department, tentative plans were made to hold special training sessions for the fire fighting captains.
The classes will cover analyzing fire situations, fire fighting attack of burning volatile chemicals and special fire situations. It is also planned to bring in instructors from Minneapolis, the Minnesota Department of Public Safety and the University of Minnesota, to teach some of the classes. Also refresher courses in teaching and leadership may be included.

Anoka tops Blaine in Monday night gym meet
In a North Suburban Conference gymnastics dual meet Monday evening, the Anoka girls slipped past Blaine, 121.3-112.95.
Vicki Lundquist led Anoka’s charge with first place finished in floor exercise, balance beam and on the uneven bars. She scored 8.35 in floor exercise, 8.4 on the beam and 8.15 on the bars.
Behind Lundquist in floor exercise was Blaine’s Jackie Krystofiak, who scored 8.2. Krystofiak also was second the beam with a 7.75. Blaine’s Amy Heil took third in floor exercise with an 8.0 and later tied Anoka’s Jodi Bergman for second in vaulting with an 8.05.

City, union reach accord
A new contract was agreed upon between the city of Spring Lake Park and the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 49, thus avoiding the city’s first employee strike.
A negotiation session on Jan. 26 reached a conclusion after a proposal from the mediator was tentatively agreed upon by both sides.
