SLP council approves squad car purchase

The Spring Lake Park Police Department will be getting a second Dodge Charger.

The new 2013 police squad car was unanimously approved for purchase Jan. 22 by the Spring Lake Park City Council.

The $23,141 squad car from Dodge of Burnsville came in under budget by $8,934, said Chief Doug Ebeltoft.

It will replace the 2009 Crown Victoria, which will be sold at auction with the funds going back into the general fund, he said.

Although the police department had other choices to replace the Crown Victoria, which Ford discontinued, Ebeltoft chose the Charger.

“The Charger will be the best fit,” he said.
