Mayors Trail Ride will go this Saturday after January postponement

The wind has an Arctic chill and light flurries of snow tease snowmobilers, but will it be enough for the annual Mayors Trail Ride this weekend?

The annual Mayors Snowmobile Trail ride will be held Saturday.
The annual Mayors Snowmobile Trail ride will be held Saturday.

“Conditions are very good for the ride,” said trail boss and Ramsey Police Chief Jim Way.

The trail is staked and ready for nearly 50 snowmobilers already pre-registered for the Feb. 23 event, he said.

Registration for snowmobilers will start at 10 a.m. and continue until the snowmobilers hit the Rum River trail around 10:30 a.m., Way said.

Registration is $20 the day of the event, but children under 14 ride free.

Riders, including the mayors from Andover, Anoka, Nowthen, Oak Grove, Ramsey and St. Francis, will be given a list of businesses along the trail that are offering specials for the event.

The day will end at McDuff’s Eatery and Pub, 16659 St. Francis Blvd. N.W. in Ramsey, at 3 p.m. where there will be a lot of prizes to be given away, including a 50-inch Panasonic television, said Way.

Proceeds from the event benefit the Youth First Community of Promise, serving Anoka, Andover and Ramsey, and other non-profit groups as decided by each mayor.

This event was originally scheduled for Jan. 19, but had to be postponed because of poor snowmobiling conditions.
