Spring Lake Park fire destroys townhome

A Sunday evening fire destroyed a Spring Lake Park townhome.

When the Spring Lake Park-Blaine-Mounds View Fire Department arrived at 1322 Crown Oaks Drive at 10:45 p.m. Feb. 17, the garage and lower level of the townhouse were engulfed in fire, said Chief Fire Investigator Jeremiah Anderson.

While no cause has been determined yet, the fire started in the garage, he said.

When the smoke detectors went off, the 57-year-old male renter, who had been asleep, opened the connecting garage and was burned on his face, Anderson said.

The garage, including the 2001 Dodge Caravan, was destroyed and the townhouse sustained fire damage to the kitchen, he said.

There was heavy smoke damage throughout the home, Anderson said.

The man, who had recently moved in, was treated at the scene.

There was no damage to any of the adjoining 10 townhomes, Anderson said.
