Barnier, Leon Vincent
86, of Brooklyn Park, formerly of Anoka and Plymouth, passed away on 2/18/13.
Leon was born on 9/21/26 to Frank and Adell Barnier of Otsego Township, MN.
He graduated from Anoka High School in 1944 and enlisted in the US Navy. He served as an electrician’s mate on a minesweeper in the Pacific.
He returned to civilian life as a right-of-way agent at Anoka Electric Coop. and during his career advanced to Acting General Manager. In 1979, he became Executive Director of the MN Rural Electric Association, serving until his retirement in 1992.
Leon was a skilled handyman who took pride in his numerous woodworking and garden projects. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and golf, especially with family members. He contributed his leadership skills to the Boy Scouts, Kiwanis, and the Chambers of Commerce in Anoka and Blaine.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Faira (Forsyth) Barnier; brother, Aloy “Bud” (Lores) Barnier of Tucson, AZ; children, Christopher (Claudia) Barnier, Gregory (Janelle) Barnier, Yvonne (Jim) Shuda, Daniel (Linda) Barnier, Mary (Steve) Plaisance, Michele (Terry) Lovaas, Annette Barnier (Mark Peterson) and Renee Wilson; grandchildren, Michael (Amy) Lipetzky, Lisa (Andrew) Willing, Jeff Lipetzky, Alex Lipetzky, Richard Barnier, Edwin Barnier, Collette Plaisance, Daniel Plaisance, Adam Lovaas, David Barnier-Wells, Amelia Wilson and Grace Seifert; four great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by parents; and sisters, Lula (Eric) Nelson and Priscilla (Francis) Ehlen.
Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, Feb. 23 at the Church of the Holy Name of Jesus in Medina.
Interment Calvary Cemetery, Anoka.
