Coon Rapids Lions Club extravaganza event is Feb. 23

Anoka-Ramsey Community College will be the site of a fund-raiser for the Coon Rapids Lions Club tomorrow (Saturday, Feb. 23).

The club is hosting its fourth wine and epicurean delights extravaganza from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Riverwind Café on the Coon Rapids campus located at 11200 Mississippi Blvd.

This event is being held to raise funds for the club’s various community projects, which include promoting reading at the local elementary schools, health screenings at Coon Rapids High School, ACBC Food Shelf, Alexandra House, Element Teen Center, Feed My Starving Children, Mercy Hospital Wellness Van, Stepping Stone Emergency Housing, TLC Toys, camps and Scouting.

The extravaganza will feature more than 80 different wines provided by MGM Liquor Warehouse of Coon Rapids through various vendors who will be on hand to serve and discuss the wines.

In addition to the wines for sampling, there will be appetizers served by 12 local establishments such as Famous Dave’s, Boston’s, Olive Garden, Dickey’s Barbeque Pit, Hot Wok, Dairy Queen, Potbelly Sandwich Shop, Pizza Hut, Caribou Coffee, Jimmy John’s, Buffalo Wild Wings and The Harvest Grill.

The event will have booths that feature local artisans and businesses, a coat check for the attendees and a silent auction held for gift certificates and items donated by local businesses.

A “Wall of Wine” with up to 80 bottles of wine will offer attendees an opportunity to designate where a donation to a Lions club project will be sent through the spin of a wheel.

The club would also like to remind anyone attending to bring their used eyeglasses and hearing aids.

Those items are recycled and distributed all over the world to help in improving sight for those persons in need.

Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door. They cover admission to the event and participation in all the various wine samples and appetizers.

Tickets are available for purchase at MGM Liquor Warehouse, at Potbelly Sandwiches of Coon Rapids, at the door on the day of the event, in advance from members of the Coon Rapids Lions Club and on-line at
