The Coon Rapids Lions Club hosted its fourth wine and epicurean delights extravaganza at Anoka-Ramsey Community College Saturday evening.
This event was a fundraiser to benefit the club’s various community projects, including health screenings at Coon Rapids High School, ACBC Food Shelf, Alexandra House, Element Teen Center, Feed My Starving Children, Mercy Hospital Wellness Van, Stepping Stone Emergency Housing, TLC Toys, camps and Scouting.
An estimated 200 people attended and more than $3,600 was raised.
More than 80 different wines were provided by MGM Liquor Warehouse of Coon Rapids through vendors who served and discussed the wines with guests at the event.
In addition, appetizers were served by 12 local establishments – Famous Dave’s, Boston’s, Olive Garden, Dickey’s Barbeque Pit, Hot Wok, Dairy Queen, Potbelly Sandwich Shop, Pizza Hut, Caribou Coffee, Jimmy John’s, Buffalo Wild Wings and The Harvest Grill.
There were also booths for local artisans and businesses to show their wares and products plus a silent auction for people to bid on gift certificates and items donated by local businesses.
The traditional “Wall of Wine” with up to 80 bottles of wine had a new wrinkle this year.
Attendees paid $20 for a bottle of wine, then played the game of plinko to determine which community organization and/or program supported by the Lions club their $20 will go.
Each container where the “plinko” could land was designated with one of the organizations and/or programs.
