Hearings bring out public comment on district budget cuts

Public hearings continued last week over the fate of the 1983-1984 general fund budget for School District 16.

The public hearings are an extension of the movement made by the school board in December 1982 that would call for the reduction of the General Fund Expenses in the amount of $200,000 to $400,000.

Suggestions for possible budget reduction items were sought from citizens and employees in the district.

In the end, snowmobile ordinance unchanged

What began as a question about snowmobiling on Spring Lake more or less came to a conclusion at the Spring Lake Park City Council meeting March 1.

The issue began about a month ago when Bob Shimanski, who lives along the lake, questioned whether or not snowmobiling was banned on the lake. The ordinance prohibited snowmobiling in city parks, streets and right of ways and on Laddie Lake, but made no reference to Spring Lake.
