Janis Marie (Kocmick) Schumacher, age 74 of Monticello and formerly of Dayton, lost her courageous battle with melanoma on April 4, 2013.
Visitation was Tuesday April 9, 2013 from 10 AM to 11 AM at St. Henry Catholic Church, 1001 East 7th Street, Monticello. Mass of Christian Burial followed at 11 AM on Tuesday with Fr. Tony VanderLoop officiating.
Interment will be at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery of Little Falls. Funeral arrangements are with the Peterson-Grimsmo Chapel of Monticello.
Janis was born on September 18, 1938 in Wagner, South Dakota to John and Mary Kocmick. Janis was educated in a one room school house near Dante, SD and graduated from Avon High School in 1956. She attended beauty school in Rapid City and became a skilled beautician. She was also a talented housewife and very adept at sewing, and made many clothes for her family and things for her home. Her main hobby was gardening both flowers and vegetables, and was considered a “master gardener” by many friends. In later years Jan’s hobbies also included demolition projects in and remodeling of several homes. She was also an avid crossword puzzle solver, Scrabble and card player. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Monticello Food Shelf. Janis will be dearly missed by all.
Janis was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary Kocmick; brother Jim; and first husband Charles Mann.
She is survived by her second husband of 48 years, Earl; children Susan Foster, Charles (Sherri) Mann, Mark, Tom, Tim (Lisa); grandchildren Kyle, Kali, Kyra and Madilynn; sisters Violet, Sylvia (Loren); brother Robert (Joan); sister-in-law Emma Kocmick; and many relatives and friends.
