Final concert has barbershop harmony show

Barbershop harmony will be showcased in the fourth and final concert of the Coon Rapids Arts Commission’s 2013 dessert and coffee concert series next week.The Minneapolis Commodores will perform at the Coon Rapids Civic Center Thursday, April 11 at 7 p.m.

The Minneapolis Commodores Chorus chartered with the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America in 1944 and continues that association with the current Barbershop Harmony Society in the Land O’ Lakes district.

The Commodores are the 15-time Land O’ Lakes district champion and five-time international competition medalists.

A big, full quality sound combined with colorful costumes and entertaining stage play make any Commodore production a truly memorable experience, according to the Minneapolis Commodores website.

The Minneapolis Commodores Chorus presents its 66th annual show, “The Best Years of Our Lives” Saturday, April 6 in two performances, 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., at the Benson Great Hall at Bethel University, St. Paul.

In addition to the music, the concert will feature an exhibit by a local artist.

A dessert and beverage will be served.

Admission, which includes the dessert and beverage, is $7 for adults and $5 for adults age 65 and over and children age 12 and under.
