An inexpensive way to purchase trees and shrubs is through the Anoka Conservation District (ACD).
The ACD offers 25-plus varieties of economically priced seedlings and transplants sold in bundles of 10 and 25 for just a little over $1 per tree and are now taking pre-orders until April 12, or until sold out with any remaining stock sold at the tree and shrub pick up April 27 at the Anoka County Fairgrounds between 8 and 10 a.m.
To assist in making a selection, the AnokaSWCD.org website features each species with detailed descriptions and images of each of the varieties being offered.
For one-on-one assistance in making selections call the Anoka Conservation District staff at 763-434-2030.
There are many purposes and uses for trees, according to Kathy Berkness, ACD administrative assistant..
Optimum spacing is six feet between shrubs, 15 to 20 feet between trees and 15 to 20 feet between rows, Berkness said.
