Coon Rapids-based Lake Air acquires Bloomington firm

Lake Air Companies, headquartered in Coon Rapids, acquired WB Tooling, Bloomington, April 4.

WB Tooling will relocate to Lake Air Companies’ New Hope metal-stamping facility and all staff have been retained.

The Coon Rapids facility houses Lake Air’s precision metal fabrication and structural fabrication/machining divisions.

The acquisition of WB Tooling adds short-run metal stamping to complement Lake Air Companies’ expertise in precision long-run stamping, precision sheet metal fabrication, structural metal fabrication, production machining and assembly, according to Brad Severson, chief executive officer, Lake Air Companies.

“Our executive team continues to execute on our growth strategy,” Severson said. “We’ve increased our employee base by 20 percent in 2012 and we are committed to keeping highly skilled manufacturing jobs in Minnesota.

“Acquiring WB Tooling brings a key component to our metal stamping capabilities and not only allows for entry into new markets but allows us to expand offerings to our existing customer base.”

Lake Air Companies produces a wide range of parts for industries that include automotive, agriculture, medical, lawn and turf, defense and aerospace.

The company currently operates nearly 200,000 square feet of production capacity in three plants, located in Coon Rapids and New Hope.

Lake Air is one of the top metal manufacturers in the Midwest and ships products around the world, according to Severson.

Lake Air Companies have been providing precision metal work for some of the largest companies in the automotive, medical, aerospace and agricultural industries for more than 50 years.
