As a math and science teacher, Ronald Lease knew what the odds were for actually winning the Menards 2012 vehicle sweepstakes, but he still filled out the entry form.
And the Ham Lake resident was the lucky winner of a 2013 Ford Explorer.
“I have never won anything before,” Lease said.
This is the first time a customer of the Coon Rapids Menards store has won, said General Manager Doug Stuart.
Since 2011, Menards has given away only eight vehicles in Minnesota, he said.
According to Stuart, the company gives away 13 vehicles a year.
“It is exciting to have a winner from the local area,” Stuart said.
When Lease received the call from the Menards corporate office, located in Eau Claire, Wis., “I thought it was a telemarketer” and he did not get too excited, he said.
Once the truck arrived at the Coon Rapids store two weeks ago, Lease’s excitement grew.
Lease and his wife Lori went to check it out and got a sneak peak at what they would be bringing home.
The vehicle was unlocked and Lori got to sit in it, Lease said.
Lease enters the vehicle sweepstakes on a regular basis, but didn’t think he would ever win, he said.
“I started when (Menards) was doing ATVs,” Lease said.
Lease was on his own when he picked up his new truck April 3 because Wednesdays are busy days for his family of six, he said.
He teaches at District 11’s River Trail Learning Center at L.O. Jacob in Coon Rapids.
According to its website, Menards has 270 home improvement stores in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, Wisconsin and Wyoming.
