Blankets, pillows made by Coon Rapids auxiliary for VA Hospital

Tie blankets and pillows hand-made by members of the Coon Rapids VFW Auxiliary have been donated to the Veterans Administration (VA) Hospital in Minneapolis.

There were 44 items, including 19 pillows, presented to Reva Swanson, national VFW Auxiliary hospital director, by auxiliary members April 2.

Since November 2012, 130 blankets and pillows have been made by Coon Rapids VFW Auxiliary members for patients at the VA Hospital.

With an average of 250 veterans at the hospitals at any one time, there is always a need for blankets and pillows, according to Swanson, who for many years was Department of Minnesota VFW Auxiliary hospital chairperson.

Swenson delivered the tie blankets and pillows to the VA Hospital.

Materials for the blankets and pillows are donated to the VFW Auxiliary, said Phyllis Sigler, project chairperson for the Coon Rapids VFW Auxiliary.

“But the auxiliary members make the blankets and pillows themselves,” she said.

This has been an ongoing project of the Coon Rapids VFW Auxiliary for many years.
