Visitors to Coon Rapids Dam Regional Park will notice changes as work gets under way on the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Coon Rapids Dam rehabilitation project.
Three Rivers Park District, as owner of the dam, is cooperating with the DNR on the project, which is designed to combat the threat of invasive fish species on the Mississippi River as well as make much-needed improvements to extend the life of the dam.
Construction will occur in 2013 and 2014. During the construction period, the walkway across the dam will be closed.
A portion of the parking area near the dam also will be closed; however, the fishing platform, the Coon Rapids Dam Visitor Center and a trail loop located east and south of the visitor center will be open this year.
Three Rivers Park District welcomes visitors to Coon Rapids Dam Regional Park during the construction period, but asks that people follow all signs regarding trail and facility closures.
