The Andover City Council April 16 took another step in expanding the footprint of its city campus on the north side of Crosstown Boulevard and east of Nightingale Street.
The council agreed to pay Loreen and Sheila Barrett $165,000 to purchase their 48-year-old home and the one-acre property it sits on at 1929 Crosstown Blvd. N.W. The property is immediately west of the two hockey rinks and warming house.
With the purchase of the Barrett property, the city now owns all the land on the north side of Crosstown Boulevard between Nightingale Street and Hanson Boulevard.
The city has been working on assembling properties in this area in recent years. It has an agreement to purchase more land just north of the Barrett property on the east side of Nightingale Street this year.
The assembled property could be used for material storage, a recycling center and other future facility expansion, according to the city’s 2013-2017 capital improvement plan.
