The Monday morning commute on Highway 65 could be slow as the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) begins rehabilitating a Spring Lake Park pedestrian bridge.
Work on the pedestrian bridge, located at 80th Avenue N.E., will begin 7 a.m. Monday, May 6 – weather permitting.
“Initially, motorists can expect short-term traffic restrictions, including reduced speeds, shoulder and off-peak lane closures on approaching the work zone,” said Denise Workcuff, MnDOT public affairs coordinator.
The project will also include the installation of two new accessible pedestrian ramps, starting with the east side of the bridge.
The ramps will replace the existing stairwells, which will be removed after June 10, Workcuff said.
The pedestrian bridge will be closed to pedestrians June 10 when the crew begins work on the new bridge deck, updating the railing and painting the steel beams.
Highway 65 between 81st Avenue N.E. and Osborne Road is scheduled to be fully closed from 10 p.m. Friday, June 14 through 5 a.m. Monday, June 17.
“The full closure will be necessary as crews remove the existing bridge deck,” said Workcuff.
MnDOT expects to re-open the bridge to pedestrians by Aug. 30.
