Coon Rapids VFW Ladies Auxiliary, known for raising money for youth scholarships, nursing home luncheons, funeral lunches, holiday baskets and more, will host a flea market, boot sale and expo Saturday, May 18, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“This is our second year offering a British-style ‘boot sale’ option to vendors,” said Mary Kaye Kath, the event’s coordinator.
Borrowed from the British, “boot” refers to a car’s trunk and selling items from it, according to Kath.
“It’s an easy, convenient way vendors can participate,” Kath said.
It’s also the second year the event will include musical entertainment by John “Johntourage” Daniel.
“Music is fun and adds value beyond the bargain prices,” said Kath.
The event again features BB gun safety with demos and interacting courtesy of the Buffalo Youth Shooting Group.
“We’ll be offering hot food, snacks and beverages during the event,” said the event’s food coordinator Tami Meyers.
There’s no danger of the event becoming static according to Kath,
“We’ve added a new feature this time around, a live reptile display,” Kath said.
Vendors will be offering any number of objects ranging from swords to antiques, collectibles as well as assorted oddities and bits and bobs.
A separate table will offer gently used purses with proceeds going to cancer research and assistance. A table of new fleece pillows will be sold to fund blankets for hospitalized veterans.
“There’ll be all this and more going on here,” Kath said.
“We invite everyone to check us out.”
The event is free. Parking is free and plentiful.
Vendor space is available at $10 per 12-foot space.
The Coon Rapids VFW Post is at 1919 Coon Rapids Blvd.
