The second edition of the Blaine Triathlon is set for May 18.
Last season 300 participants covered the one-third-mile swim, 16.7-mile bike ride and 3.5-mile run.
This year’s registration closed March 12 with 350 registrants.
Nate Monahan, program supervisor at the city of Blaine, said positive feedback from last year’s race helped them plan for this year.
“People loved it,” he said. “There isn’t another triathlon in the area and 40 percent of the participants came from Blaine. They said it was well organized and had a good time.”
Most of the changes aren’t visible to spectators, but participants asked for more buoys to mark the swim.
As for the unseasonably wintry spring, Monahan said they hoped the water temperatures reached the upper 50s, but strongly suggested all participants to wear a wet suit for the first triathlon of the season.
