SLP Planning Commission to be reduced

Next year the Spring Lake Park Planning Commission will be shrinking.

The Spring Lake Park City Council decided May 6 by unanimous vote to reduce the number of commission members from nine to no less than five and no more than seven members.

The commission is the largest commission in the state and the reduction will bring it in line with other cities, said Assistant City Administrator Dan Buchholtz.

The current commission members will continue to serve until the end of 2013, he said.

When the city appoints people to the commission next year, it will be appoint two rather than three members, Buchholtz said.

Buchholtz also cited difficulty finding volunteers to serve on the city’s boards and commissions as well as that the city is mostly developed as reasons for the size reduction.

The tradition of appointing a high school student to the commission will continue, he said.
