In honor of National Volunteer Appreciation Week (April 21-27), Anoka Lions Club members Art Schlenker and Vicki Violet were presented with a $300 donation from the city of Anoka’s Waste Reduction and Recycling Board (WRRB) members at the club’s April 23 meeting.
WRRB Chairperson Jan Call and Vice Chairperson Tim Aberwald presented the donation in appreciation for club members’ continued commitment and enthusiastic volunteer service to Anoka’s spring and fall recycling events.
Anoka’s Waste Reduction and Recycling Board hosts a recycling drop off event each spring and fall. Through wind, rain and snow, Anoka Lions Club members volunteer their time and share much enthusiasm in greeting customers, handing out information and providing directions around the site.
“Volunteers are essential to ensure our recycling events run smoothly,” Call said. “The Anoka Lions welcome our customers and answer questions with smiles. We are fortunate and appreciative of their continued volunteerism.”
The donation is funded by SCORE (Select Committee on Recycling and the Environment) through Anoka County. SCORE also supports the city’s recycling events.
Anoka’s spring and fall recycling events take place the last Saturday of April and September each year, from 8 a.m. to noon, at the Public Works facility located at 501 Pierce St. in Anoka. For more information, visit www.ci.anoka.mn.us.
The board meets the second Wednesday of each month at 5 p.m. at Anoka City Hall.
