It has been an Anoka Area Chamber of Commerce tradition to bring in former Minnesota Twins greats whose number have been retired by the team.
In the past the chamber has had events featuring Harmon Killebrew, Kirby Pucket, Kent Hrbek and Tony Oliva. June 14, the chamber will add Rod Carew’s name to that list.
Carew played for the Twins from 1967 to 1978 and was an 18 time All Star.
He has seven American League battling titles and was the American League MVP in 1977.
His number, 29, is retired by both the Twins and California Angels. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1991.
Carew will be the featured speaker at the Anoka Area Chamber luncheon held at the newly reopened Courtyards of Andover,13545 Martin St., Andover.
The menu will includd open fire pan fried walleye or grilled chicken breast, pasta salad, coleslaw, dinner rolls and a fruit bowl.
The luncheon will begin with a registration at 11:30 a.m. followed the luncheon and program from noon to 1 p.m
Cost to attend is $20 per person.
