A Blaine man will be one of among 10 men who will receive the sacrament of priestly ordination this weekend from Rev. John C. Nienstedt, Archbishop of St. Paul and Minneapolis.
Deacon Joah Ellis, 26, of Blaine will be ordained tomorrow (Saturday, May 25), 10 a.m. at the Cathedral of Saint Paul, 239 Selby Ave., St. Paul.
Ellis and his parents, Daniel and Carrie Ellis, are parishioners at the Church of the Epiphany in Coon Rapids.
As a young boy Ellis became acquainted with many priests over dinners at his parents’ home, often followed by games of pick-up basketball. He later worked one summer for the Anoka County Parks and Recreation Department before enrolling in a seminary.
Ellis and the other priests being ordained May 25 received their formation for the priesthood at The Saint Paul Seminary School of Divinity and earned their master of divinity degrees.
The seminarians spent time in a parish each week over the past four years participating in various aspects of parish life and pastoral service.
Ellis’ teaching parish was the Church of St. Timothy in Maple Lake. He will celebrate his Mass of Thanksgiving May 26 at 11 a.m. at The Church of the Epiphany.
