Candidate filing begins for Ramsey special election

The first day for Ramsey residents to file for the Ramsey City Council vacant Ward 1 seat special election is today (Friday, May 24).

Candidates need to live in Ward 1, which lies west of Nowthen Boulevard, north of Alpine Drive to the Ramsey’s border with the city of Nowthen and east to the Rum River, and pay the $5 filing fee.

Candidates have until June 7 to file, said City Clerk Jo Thieling.

The special election will be held July 30, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

According to Thieling, absentee voting will begin June 28.

The winner of the special election will serve the remainder of David Elvig’s term, which ends Dec. 31, 2014.

Elvig resigned April 23, five days after a jury found him guilty of theft by swindle from the employees of his personal business, E-Street Makers.

Elvig is scheduled for sentencing June 17.
