College notes: Wojciechowski earns All-American honors

University of Minnesota, Duluth freshman first baseman Alex Wojciechowski (Coon Rapids) continued to receive honors for a stellar first season with the Bulldogs by earning a spot on the Daktronics All-American third team member announced May 24, a first by a Duluth player since 2005.

He led the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference in hitting with a .425 batting average to earn Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year honors as well led the Bulldogs in hits (51), slugging percentage (.675), doubles (15) and home runs (five).

Wojciechowski had a 10-game hitting streak from March 28-April 1 with 16 multiple hit games in 33 contests this spring. He had a season high five hits against Minnesota-Crookston in a 7-5 win in the first game of a double-header April 28.

The Bulldogs finished 14-26, losing in the first round of the NSIC tournament May 9. The Bulldogs were the only team out of 251 schools in NCAA Division II to not play a home game this spring.

He was one of two rookies named the to All-Central Region first time.

Wojciechowski signed to play summer baseball with the Northwoods League’s Duluth Huskies which begin its season June 1.
