Parking will been banned on both sides of Round Lake Boulevard between Coon Rapids Boulevard and 115th Avenue.
The Coon Rapids City Council May 21 adopted an ordinance putting the parking restrictions in place. The ordinance will go into effect June 8.
The reason is the planned reconstruction of the Coon Rapids Boulevard/Round Lake Boulevard intersection by Anoka County this summer.
As part of the project, for which the council has approved a joint powers agreement with the county, the city is required to impose a parking ban on Round Lake Boulevard, according to City Engineer Bob Moberg.
Round Lake Boulevard, south of Coon Rapids Boulevard, currently has parking on both sides of the road, Moberg wrote in his report to the council.
There are two office buildings, several duplexes and some single-family homes along this stretch of Round Lake Boulevard.
The parking ban is needed to accommodate the intersection improvements at Coon Rapids and Round Lake boulevards, Moberg wrote.
These include a dedicated left-turn lane and a combination through lane, right-turn lan for northbound movements, he wrote.
Letters were sent to adjacent property owners notifying them of the proposed parking restrictions on this segment of Round Lake Boulevard, according to Moberg.
“Staff received one response from a resident in favor of the parking restriction,” Moberg told the council.
