The Bengals (13-2) led 8-4 with two goals 2:18 into the third quarter from Jack Micek and Ben Bulman, but couldn’t put the Rebels away in yet another section heartbreaker for the budding Blaine lacrosse program.

The Bengals won the previous meeting this season, which was the second game of the season April 24, 10-9.

Alex Winecke scored 45 seconds into the game to give Blaine a 1-0 lead. He completed the hat trick with goals 43 seconds apart to give Blaine a 6-4 advantage going into halftime.

Champlin Park used a five-goal third quarter to get back into the contest and built on that momentum into the final period and overtime session.

After being shutout all game, Blaine’s leading scorer Eric Zickermann scored 6:38 into the fourth quarter for an 11-10 lead. Just over five minutes later Champlin Park’s Max Turgeon scored his second goal of the game.

Brenden Nadeau stopped 12 shots in the loss for Blaine, while the offense peppered the Rebels goal with 22 shots.

Both of Blaine’s losses were by the same 12-11 score as it finished the regular season with an overtime defeat at Eagan May 22.

Totino-Grace ended Blaine’s season with a 5-4 section final loss in 2012 and White Bear Lake did 11-10 in 2011.

Blaine reached the section final by posting a 14-5 win against Andover May 31 after receiving a first-round bye. Warner and Micek both had three goals for Blaine, while Zickermann contributed six assists and two goals.
