State golf: Legacy girls’ capture Class A state title

Legacy Christian Academy captured the Class A state girls’ golf team championship one year after a fourth-place team title in 2012.

The Lions came back from seven strokes off the lead to win the state title, 19 strokes clear of runner-up Badger-Greenbush-Middle River at Pebble Creek Golf Course in Becker June 12.

Eighth-grader Kayla Ruf followed up a first-round 89 with a 92 for a team-best 185 strokes to place 18th overall, 23 strokes behind Russell Tyler Ruthton’s Hannah Kruger.

Legacy’s second through fourth scorers were within two strokes of each other. Sophomore Anna Cleveland tied for 21st place overall with a second-round 91 after carding an opening round 97.

Seventh-grader Sophia Gray tied for 23rd place with a 189 and sophomore Jillian Johnson placed 25th with a 190.
