Responding to demand, Safe Kids Anoka County is hosting another bike helmet clinic Wednesday, June 19, 4 to 7 p.m., at the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office on 133rd Avenue in Andover.At the clinic, helmets will be fitted properly and bike helmets will be on sale for $13.
New Bell helmets are available in a variety of colors and styles, ranging from toddlers to adults.
According to Laura Landes, Anoka County Sheriff’s Office, all helmets comply with US CPSC safety standards.
No appointment of necessary, it will be first come, first served while supplies last, Landes said.
“Help us with our mission of working to decrease unintentional injuries to children,” she said.
Bike-related crashes kill 900 people every year and send about 567,000 to the hospital emergency rooms with injuries, according to Landes.
“More than 40 percent of all head injury-related deaths and approximately three-quarters of head injuries occur among children ages 14 and under,” Landes said. “Wearing a bike helmet can reduce the risk of head injury by 85 percent.”
The clinic is open to everyone, not just residents of Anoka County.
