Margaret “Marge” Irene Walburg Merritt, 95 of Crosby died on June 8, 2013 at the Cuyuna Regional Care Center in Crosby. She was born in Minneapolis, on August 25, 1917 to Gustaf and Bertha Walburg. After graduating from Ogilvie High School, she worked as a retail clerk. Margaret married Donald Paul Erickson on September 19, 1939. The couple eventually moved to Anoka where Don managed the National Foods Store until his untimely death in 1973. In 1978 Marge married a church friend, William C. Merritt Sr., who preceded her in death in 1990.
Marge lived in the Anoka area from 1943 to 2009, when she moved to Heartwood Assisted Living in Crosby to be near to her son, Paul and his wife Angela, For 35 years Marge was employed as a cashier for National Foods in Anoka. She was a member of Anoka United Methodist Church, Ruth Circle, Philection Women’s Club and Eastern Star Auxiliary.
She is survived by her sister, Betty Jacobson of Matthews, NC; 2 sons, Paul (Angela) Erickson of Emily and Steven Erickson of Mason City, IA; 4 grandchildren, Tyler (Peggy) Erickson of Waconia; Britt (Dave) Olson of Louisville, KY, Steven Erickson, Jr. of Des Moines, IA, Amy (Craig) Markham of Mason City, IA and 2 great grandsons, Stephen Erickson and Nathan Markham.
She is also survived by the 5 children of William C. Merritt, Sr. and their families. Marge’s brother, Russell preceded her in death.
A Celebration of Life service will be held 3 pm on Friday, June 28th at the Anoka United Methodist Church in Anoka.
The family suggests memorials to the Anoka Methodist Church or donors choice.
Burial was at the North Isanti Baptist Church Cemetery in Cambridge. Arrangements are with the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby.
