The Coon Rapids North Star Lions Club is supporting a number of events in the city this summer, including the Fourth of July celebration and the Coon Rapids Arts Commission’s concerts at the Coon Rapids Dam Regional Park.
Proceeds from all of the Lions Club’s support of concessions and events goes back to the Coon Rapids Community Strength Foundation to provide funding for the fireworks, concerts, Movies in the Park at Sand Creek Park and other community activities.
The club has the Sand Creek Park concession stand open Monday through Thursday evenings all summer long to support the softball leagues playing at Sand Creek. Most of those teams have no idea club members are manning the concession stand, according to Diane Buszta, North Star Lions Club member.
“We are serving hamburgers, hot dogs, brats, nacho cheese and chips, walking tacos, popcorn, frozen slushies, pop, water, tea, candy bars and chips,” Buszta said.
At the summer concert series at the Coon Rapids Dam Regional Park, the club is handling concessions, selling hot dogs, brats, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, walking tacos and nacho cheese and chips.
The concerts take place at the regional park every Thursday evening at 7 p.m., except July 4. The Aug. 8 concert featuring Rockie Lynne will be at Sand Creek Park with club members providing food and beverages from the concession building.
And the club, along with Coon Rapids firefighters, is sponsoring the annual Fourth of July celebration July 3 through 7. “We have the parade, Crafts in the Creek, car show, bands, concession stand and all that goes with it,” Buszta said.
The band line-up features the The Splatter Sisters on parade night Wednesday, July 3; Killebrew playing before and after the fireworks Thursday, July 4; Shag on Friday, July 5; and The Arcades on Saturday, July 6, in conjunction with the car show.
Crafts at the Creek is open Saturday, July 6 and Sunday, July 7.
