St. Francis requests funding to acquire townhome sites

The St. Francis City Council May 20 voted to request $75,000 from the Anoka County Housing and Redevelopment Authority, which, if granted, the city would potentially use to buy 46 lots for the construction of new townhomes.

The lots are located north of the city’s new police and public works building in the Meadows of St. Francis development. The potential acquisition is a response by the city to its need for additional housing for moderate-income households.

St. Francis City Administrator Matt Hylen said that if the request is approved, the City Council and the city’s Economic Development Authority would discuss how involved the city would be in the physical development of the lots.
