Summer Lunch is being served again at Peace Lutheran Church.
The meals, offered noon-1:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday all summer, are served to hungry people of all ages.
Since the summer of 2009, the church has partnered with the Anoka-Hennepin School District to provide free summertime bag lunches to students and their families who would qualify for the district’s free and reduced lunch program during the school year.
This year Peace is going “beyond the bag,” said Rev. Nancy Bence.
The free lunch now includes a hot entree, salad bar, fruit and desserts as well as milk and water to quench thirsty palates.
“We believe this will be more attractive for adults – who have already made up a large percentage of our guests – as well as provide a healthier alternative to bag lunches,” Bence said.
Veterans and seniors in need are also welcome to partake in Summer Lunch fare, she said.
According to Bence, the church is applying for grants to help fund its Summer Lunch program and is also “welcoming gifts from individuals.”
