One motorcyclist died and another was injured following separate single-vehicle accidents within 24 hours in Coon Rapids late last week.
In an accident reported shortly after 5 a.m. the morning of June 28, motorcyclist Jeffrey Dean Harris, 54, Coon Rapids, was westbound on Coon Rapids Boulevard approaching Yukon Street when he attempted to change lanes and lost control of the motorcycle, the accident report states.
He was taken to Mercy Hospital where he died later that day.
A gathering of family and friends will take place from 4-6 p.m. Monday, July 8 at Gearhart Funeral Home, 11275 Foley Blvd., Coon Rapids. A celebration of life for Harris is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 9 at the Shortstop Bar, 421 Northdale Blvd., Coon Rapids.
Harris is survived by his daughter, Mari; son, Cory (Anna); mother, Kay; sister, Candy (Chuck) Jost; nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Justine “Sooky.”
The other motorcycle accident occurred about 6:20 p.m. the evening of June 27 on 119th Avenue just east of the Burlington-Northern Santa Fe Railroad tracks at the Northdale Boulevard intersection.
According to the Coon Rapids Police accident report, Daniel Lee Rangel, 33, Coon Rapids, was on the side of the road in the sand/gravel and when he accelerated, he lost control overturning his motorcycle.
Rangel was taken to Mercy Hospital with a head wound, which required multiple stitches to close, but was expected to be all right, said Capt. John Hattstrom, Coon Rapids Police.
He was listed was in serious, but stable condition at Mercy June 28 and was no longer in the hospital Monday.
