New water feature makes a splash at area YMCA

Water toys, slides and fountains made quite a splash when Emma B. Howe YMCA, Coon Rapids, opened its newest water feature with a grand opening party the afternoon of June 27.

The Splash Deck is a watery playground with no standing water, making it the perfect place for people of all ages and abilities to refresh themselves in the cool water.

“You can spray, dump and splash water as much as you like and there’s no danger of drowning because there’s no standing water,” said YMCA Director of Healthy Living Derek Otto.

“A couple of other YMCAs have outdoor pools, maybe something similar to the Splash Deck, but nothing like ours.”

“People are loving it. It’s been popping every day.”

The Splash Deck opened to member families the first weekend in June. On June 27 a MetroNorth Chamber of Commerce grand opening party and ribbon cutting ceremony made it official.

The deck is open to all ages, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day of the week, weather permitting.

Currently, only YMCA members and their guests are permitted to play at the Splash Deck, but punch cards may soon be available.
