Three area golfers take aim at state junior championship

The Minnesota junior state golf championships were decided Tuesday afternoon at two sites across Minnesota.

Andover’s Sierra Langlie (Bunker Hills) carded rounds of 84 and 83 to tie for 14th place in the junior girls’ state championship played at Baker National in Medina. Langlie was 20 strokes behind champion Katherine Smith playing out of Ironman Golf Club, who carded an opening round 71 and followed that with a 76. Andover teammate Haley Tollette placed 39th out of 56 golfers.

The boys’ junior state championship was played at the par-72, 6,642-yard Dakotah Ridge Golf Club. Spring Lake Park’s Pete Sienko finished in an eight-way tie for 17th place with two rounds of 76 (eight-over-par). Jack Holmgren carded rounds of 71 and 70 for three-under to win the title, one stroke better than Matt Rachey of Waconia.
