A contract for the reconstruction of Blackfoot Street was awarded by the Coon Rapids City Council July 16 to Northwest Asphalt which had the low bid of $218,484.50.
Blackfoot, which was originally constructed in 1981, is a city collector street from 119th Avenue to Coon Rapids Boulevard and covers 0.18 of a mile.
The reconstruction is being done in conjunction with Allina’s medical building project, now well under way.
The project will involve the full replacement of the pavement and underlying gravel base with storm sewer, curb and gutter, sidewalk, driveway aprons replaced as needed and street signs.
Construction is anticipated to begin Aug. 12 with completion by Oct. 11, according to Tim Himmer, city public works director.
“The later start would allow site construction for the new medical building … to be finished prior to the start of street construction,” Himmer wrote in a report to the council.
Of the project cost, $62,665 will be assessed to benefiting property owners and the balance coming from two city funds – $89,495.92 from state aid dollars and $66,322.90 from the water system maintenance fund, according to Himmer.
Eighteen properties will be assessed for the project – four of them commercial parcels owned by Allina and the remaining 14 multi-family residential properties.
Under the city’s assessment policy, the multi-family (townhouse) parcels will be assessed $20.24 a front foot and commercial properties $40.48 a front foot.
The assessments were approved by the council July 16 at the same time as the contract award.
