The candidate filing period to elect four Spring Lake Park District 16 School Board members is just around the corner. Filing starts July 30 and ends Aug. 13.
Board seats up for election are now held by Kelly Delfs, Marilyn Forsberg, Jodi Ruch and board chairman John Stroebel.
Candidates may file at the Anoka County Elections Office, 325 E. Main St. in Anoka from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays and until 5 p.m. on Aug. 13, the last day to file. Or filing can be done through the county’s website at http://ww2.anokacounty.us/v4_elections/filing.aspx.
Candidacy affidavits may also be obtained at the District 16 Services Center at 1415 81st Ave. NE, Spring Lake Park.
The filing fee is $2.
Candidates must be an eligible voter and a resident of the district for at least 30 days before the general election. They must be 21.
Board members serve a four-year term on the seven-member school board.
Their responsibilities include attending meetings, including a monthly regular board meeting and a monthly work session.
They establish policy, employ and evaluate the superintendent, approve an annual district budget, set the annual local school levy and they interpret the needs of the community in regards to educational programs.
Board members also provide consultation to the district’s administration in developing and implementing the district’s operation plan that aligns with the district’s vision. They serve on committees and take on task force assignments.
School board members also serve as a liaison to a specific assigned school and are encouraged to attend parent teacher organization meetings.
Board members receive an annual stipend of $5,000. The chairperson, clerk and treasure receive $5,400.
