A local resident has been selected as 2014 Minneapolis Aquatennial Ambassador for the 75th anniversary festival.
Karen George will serve as one of the two 2014 captains. George is a communications professional with 30 years experience and is currently employed as the executive director of Quad Cities Cable Communications Commission and QCTV.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in communications from Concordia College, Moorhead, a masters of business communications graduate certificate from the University of St. Thomas, and a Minnesota Community Education Director license.
George served as an Anoka Princess and was the first former ambassador to serve as president of Anoka Halloween, Inc. She has been an active volunteer with the Aquatennial Fireworks event for many years.
For the next year the new team will serve as ambassadors representing the city of Minneapolis and the state of Minnesota at more than 300 individual appearances. They will attend parades, business luncheons, coronations, community functions and other celebrations throughout the region.
Among many other appearances the ambassadors will visit the Tournament of Roses in Pasadena, Calif., Macon, Ga., Winnipeg, Canada, LaCrosse Wis., Aberdeen S.D., and numerous out-state festivals in Minnesota.
