The Coon Rapids/Andover American Little League 11-year old all star team also won their Little League state tournament by beating Lake Park 15-5 on July 27 and winning 9-8 on July 28.

That championship team includes Coaches Steve Culley, Randy Lewis, and Doug Svihel and players Carter Anderson, Jordan Bloomstrom, Wyatt Brenny, Jimmy Brinda, Benji Bruce, Nathan Culley, Sam Feine, Michael Ferretti, Justin Karney, Matthew Lewis, Davey Rotundo, Devin Sailee, and Jake Svihel.

As dictated by American Little League rules, the 11-year old state championship team does not advance in tournament play beyond that level.

A celebration for both state champion teams will be held 5-8:30 p.m. tonight (July 30) at Sand Creek Park, Coon Rapids. The party will also be a fund-raiser to help support the Coon Rapids/Andover 12-year olds to raise money for their trip to Indianapolis.

Highlights of the party include a wiffle ball tournament, parents’ home run derby, music, games, a bouncy house, burgers and more.

The team’s first game is 6:30 p.m. Twin Cities time Friday, Aug. 2 against the North/South Dakota Timberline Little League team out of Rapid City, SD.
