Olsen earns gold and bronze medals in international competition

Grant Olsen, an incoming senior at St. Francis High School, recently returned from international competition in Australia, bringing home a gold and a bronze medal.

Grant competed in the 25th annual Down Under Sports Track and Field Championship meet hosted by International Sports Specialists, Inc. (ISSI) in Brisbane, Australia.

He was part of the first team selection from International Sports Specialists to represent Minnesota and the USA.

The competition in July took place at the state athletics facility in Brisbane and included approximately 34 teams from across Australia, Brazil, United States and New Zealand.

Olsen competed in four events starting with the 800-meter run, winning a bronze medal.

He won gold in the 2000 meter steeplechase.

This was the first time Olsen has ever competed in the steeplechase. He also ran in the 1500 meters placing fifth, and was a member of a 4×100 relay team.

Olsen is a four-year varsity track and field participant at St. Francis, a two-year varsity soccer participant and a one-year varsity cross country participant.

He will be returning to St. Francis High School in the fall and will start the year as a member of the cross country team.
