The 18th season of Faith Musical Production Camp takes the stage Aug. 4 with two performances of “The Star Factor,” one at 10 a.m. with a second performance at 3 p.m.
With spirited energy and youthful enthusiasm, players in kindergarten through eighth-grade sing, dance and emote a vibrant message of gifted individuality and the treasure that lies within each person.
“We are all stars in God’s mind. Each person is a star in a different way. Some are singers, some are dancers, some can paint or draw, some have great enthusiasm – but each is a star,” said Faith Musical Production Camp Director Elaine Johnson.
Johnson, owner of Sounds of Praise performance company, also serves as director of children’s ministry at Faith Lutheran Church, where the camp takes place each year.
She reports that the production camp players this year live in Coon Rapids, Ramsey, Anoka, Andover and Blaine.
“We have more than half the kids from outside our church and that’s one thing I’m most proud of – that this (camp) is about friendships and growing and building relationships. It’s not just about putting on a show,” Johnson said.
But the players do, indeed, put on a show during the weeklong camp.
In fact, the children learn all the music and the lyrics, practice choreography, memorize lines in a script, make the props and scenery, and create a set before taking center stage for the Aug. 4 performances.
“They learn all this in one week – adults could never do this, but these kids do. They are amazing,” the director said.
In addition to Johnson, “The Star Factor” is presented under the direction of dance director Robin Ringold and assistant directors for dance and sign language Lacy Tooker-Kirkevold and Kallie Jo Ascheman.
The public is invited to attend the 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. performances free of charge.
Faith Lutheran Church is located at 11115 Hanson Blvd. NW, Coon Rapids.
