The Bengalettes from Blaine High School attended Just For Kix Dance Camp in Brainerd earlier this month. Each dancer learned three routines at the four-day camp and danced approximately five to seven hours a day. The camp offers instruction for every level, ranging from beginner to elite, and various dance styles, including jazz, kick, pom, novelty, hip-hop, contemporary, and lyrical. On the final day of camp, the dancers performed the routines they learned for parents, coaches, and friends.
“We have been attending Just For Kix Dance Camps since 1990, and the team looks forward to it each year. Just For Kix does an awesome job working with the dancers to improve their skills,” said Trina Develice, Blaine Dance Team’s winter head coach.
The camp held a turns, leaps, kicks and toe touch contest on the second day of camp.
Bengalettes who participated in the contest included: Karissa Bolton (finalist), Stacey Cox (finalist), Marissa Eggerichs, Jordan Fleek, Kenzie Luoma, and Stefi Rivera (finalist).
Karissa won the turns competition and received the Heather Hayback Award. Dani Bayer received the Most Valuable Dancer Award.
The Bengalettes also received an All Event Participation Award and a Team Dedication Award for attending the camp for 23 consecutive years.
“I’m proud of how hard the girls worked this year at camp. They showed amazing team spirit and were great representatives of Blaine High School,” added Develice.
The Bengalettes had another successful season after finishing sixth in jazz and ninth in high kick at the state tournament earlier this year. The 2013-2014 Blaine Dance Team is led by captains, Dani Bayer, Karissa Bolton, and Rylee Smeriglio. The fall team is coached by Dee Manuel, Megan Schuelein, and Chelsea Erickson.
